Fallout & Elder Scrolls Challenge Runs
So I mentioned in my last update post that I planned on doing some challenge runs of a handful of the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. I have given it a fair bit of thought, and I think I have decided on what exactly I’m going to do.
First though, the games! I will be playing:
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout: Tactics
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout 4
The Elder Scrolls: Arena
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall (Unity)
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls: Online and Fallout 76 (Maybe?)
The Order I’ll be playing them is Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Fallout 2, Elder Scrolls 2, etc. I’f I enjoy this format I very well may add more series of games to the list. I’ve already thought of a couple I think I’d like to do. Final Fantasy? Kingdom Hearts? Demon/Dark Souls? That last one honestly scares me.
Anyways, I gotta start somewhere, and I think this is a good place. Each game will have to have slightly different rules due to them all having different mechanics, mods, etc, but all of them should be something similar to this:
Playing on the hardest difficulty available.
Fallout 4 like survival rules. Such as:
No fast travel outside of where necessary.
Where possible eating, drinking, and sleeping will be required.
With few exceptions, saving will only be allowed when resting in a bed or safe zone.
Most exploits will be banned, though some smaller ones may be allowed. eg. Fallout companions infinite carry weight.
No allowing companions or otherwise to do all the fighting. Exceptions for things like summoned creatures in Elder Scrolls.
All progress will be streamed and/or recorded.
After beating the game for the first time, it will be added to a rotating list of games that I will explain below.
I think that’s pretty much it for the overarching rules. Pretty simple stuff really. One other thing I will likely do that many may see as ‘cheating’ will be editing my carry weight. This is simply for my own enjoyment, and because I usually prefer to play without companions that can help carry the load. As such I will keep my carry weight at a maximum of roughly twice whatever I could carry alone, if I edit it at all. The challenge mostly comes from me only ever beating two of these games before, playing on the hardest difficulties, and then of course the second list that they’ll be added too. Which I guess I could explain now.
Simply put, I’ll be following all of the same rules, but I’ll be adding permadeath. If I get a game over not due to a glitch I’ll be moving on to the next game on the list. Once we get to the end of that list it will restart again from the beginning, and so on until I beat all of the games or give up on the challenge.
I’ll likely be creating some sort of pinned post on here to explain the rules for each game as I familiarize myself with them a bit more and we figure them out. I’m excited to get started on them, and I hope you are excited to join me as I try and complete this challenge. Of course, if there are other games you would like to see me try in this format, please do share! It will likely be a little while before I’m able to do games not on the list, but I love to hear your ideas nonetheless!
