The RimWorld Diaries (Entry 6)

Entry 6

Dusk

Woke up in just a bit of a rush today. Heard Jon and Yumi screaming for me to come help. Someone attacked us! Just wandered into our little base with a knife and started to charge us! We got them down fairly quickly, but not before she got a few cuts in on me.

Yumi has already got me patched up fairly quickly. She’s not the best doctor I’ve ever seen, but she’s certainly better than not having one at all. All said and done I think I’ll be fine with a bit of rest. Just lost a bit of blood.

With all my time to lie here and think, well I’ve finally come up with a decent name for us and our new homestead. Assuming Jon and Yumi have no objections I say we are now The Survivors at Castle Vania! I find it a fitting name at least. I hope they will too.

Night

Jon and I had the chance to talk a bit before I went out to the fields. We talked about some of our favorite foods from the old world, and for some reason, Jon had a bit of a rant on the tenants of makeup? I never quite understood how his mind gets on these things. It’s not like we have any makeup now. Whatever helps him keep his spirits up. It’s nice to see him acting like his old self as well. I worried with todays events, well I worried it’d have more of a negative effect on everyone. I guess coming out as the winner when someone has tried to raid you does feel good in it’s own way.

I did, however, enjoy reminiscing about all of our old favorite foods. Not that Jon’s gecko meat special he made earlier wasn’t something. I mean, It was better than eating yet another survival meal. Are hunting Geckos really worth our time? The amount of meat you get out of a gecko hardly seems worth the work of butchering it. I guess if there isn’t any other fresh meat then we don’t have much of a choice. Either way, I really am thankful for a belly full of some fresh food.

Otherwise, it seems something is getting into our crops. I had to completely replant a few. Maybe it was the geckos. Anyways, my injuries hurt more than I thought they would. I think I’ll have a lie down for a bit.

Midnight

I saw Jon digging a grave for our attacker when I got up from my nap. That’s just like him. Better to bury her than let her body rot out in the open anyways. She may have been attacking us, but she was still human. Hopefully someone will have the decency to bury us if, or when, the need arises.

I was able to get a couple more crops replanted. I hardly had the energy to finish that up even. I pray these injuries heal soon. I did discover what was eating our crops though! Or at least I think I have. Patton was lying in the middle of our rice field, not far from the newly damaged plants. I guess geckos eat rice? I’m not sure we should be keeping pets before we even have a solid means of feeding ourselves. I guess one Gecko can’t eat that much, right? And it seems to make Yumi happy.

Sunrise

I feel more and more tired. Yumi suggested I begin taking some of the antibiotics we collected from the wreckage. I can’t say I disagree with that advice. Have to keep it limited though, don’t want to run out in case things get really bad.

Late Morning

Talked to Yumi a bit more after waking from my nap. Maybe it’s a bit early, but I’m feeling more optimistic after taking the antibiotics. The good news doesn’t end there, Yumi says Patton made some friends! Yay! And after I was just worried about keeping pets too. She said they already have names. Elsa, and Patty. I just hope this doesn’t become a thing for her. I like having a couple pets around as much as anyone, but we need to think about our own survival. I told her of my concerns with them and the crops. She thinks she can keep them out of the fields. If that’s true I guess it won’t be so bad.

I also found a bit of fur of some kind while walking around our settlement earlier. I swear I’ve walked that area before. Even stranger it looks clean, almost processed. Where the hell does a half dozen bundles of clean fur come from in the middle of the desert?
