The RimWorld Diaries (Entry 5)

Entry 5

Late Afternoon

Jon and I finally had some real time to catch up this morning. We ate some of the packaged meals we had scavenged from the ship. It seems him and Yumi have begun to get close. Apparently they have a fair bit of time to talk during the day. Makes sense they’d see more of each other. I am a bit of a night owl after all. He also told me he and Yumi made a horseshoe pin and some horseshoes! I haven’t gotten the chance to play just yet, but I’m more excited then I probably should be. I feel I haven’t had the chance to really just have some fun in days. We could definitely use some more forms of recreation around here.

Late Night

I got the chance to play some horseshoes out in the fields. Man, you never know how much you could miss such a simple game until you go a week with practically nothing but work to do. All the stress and worry from the whole crash landing thing certainly helps you appreciate the little things as well. As exciting as that was though, I have some bigger news. I came up with an idea that I think will allow us to generate some power. A simple windmill using the scraps of wire and metal we found in the wreckage!

I’ve already begun to work on it, once I finished up the plans I just couldn’t wait any longer. Jon had even decided to pitch in a bit once he noticed I was working on something. I kind of wanted it to be a surprise for everyone, assuming it ends up working that is. Oh well, It’ll definitely go faster with the help. And with Jon going to bed already I guess it’ll still be a bit of a surprise. Once I finish up checking over our inventory and things, I think I’ll get right back to work on it.

Sunrise

It works! And surprisingly well at that. I even got a bit of an electric stove up and running to lessen our reliance on wood, and a lamp! Again, I know such simple things shouldn’t be so exciting, but coming from nothing but scrap I feel this is a huge step in the right direction. And that’s not all! I got the little cleaning bot we found in the wreckage up and running too. We don’t have much to clean right now, but with a bit of programming I think it’ll help keep things looking clean and tidy.

I showed Yumi what all we accomplished while she was asleep. She seemed fairly impressed. Honestly I’m quite happy with myself as well. I tried to chat with her a bit again, I don’t think we’re quite compatible, me and her. She mentioned that she has been feeling ill. Hopefully it’s just a bit of cryo-sickness. We have some medicine, but I’d rather not use it all up so soon after being stranded here.

The sun is rising now, It’s quite beautiful when you take the time to appreciate it.
